Mocha Popcorn Seasoning Recipe
There’s something so satisfying about popping a bag of popcorn for a movie, after a stressful day, or whenever you need a salty fix. Add cacao and superfoods to the mix? You’ve got a surprisingly decadent treat that’s also good for you.
Our team member, Dr. Jeffrey Burke, created and debuted this unique recipe during our time at the Natural Products Expo West, and it was a huge hit! The attendees were amazed that an herbal powder could be used to elevate the humble everyday popcorn into a superfood snack.
But a superfood, how? We’ve added a few ingredients like our 7 Mushroom Mocha™, ground chia seeds, Ginger, and coconut oil to transform this snack staple into a decadent, good-for-you treat that your whole family will love.

Popcorn: A Simple Snack with Unexpected Nutrition
When you think of buttery-drenched popcorn at the movies, “healthy” may be the last thing that comes to mind. But popcorn, when air-popped and without all the butter, is an excellent source of fiber, it’s gluten-free, and it stands out as a far better alternative to other crunchy salty snacks, like chips, which can often contain a list of hard-to-pronounce ingredients.
Popcorn is a historic whole-grain staple that also contains polyphenols, an important antioxidant found in plants. Plus, it’s low in calories! When it comes to healthy snacking, popcorn gets our approval.

The Recipe: Superfood Popcorn with a Decadent Twist
And now – for the recipe to enjoy whenever you need a guilt-free snack that packs a punch (and also makes the perfect gift)!
Ingredients:
2 bags of popcorn, without butter added (or 4 tbsp. of loose, organic popcorn kernels, popped on the stovetop or microwave)
3 tbsp maple syrup
1/3 cup coconut oil
3 tsp 7 Mushroom Mocha™
2 tbsp cacao powder
1/2 tsp Ginger powder
2 tbsp chia seed meal
1/4 cup dark chocolate chips or chocolate nibs
Sea salt. to taste
How to Make:
1. Start by popping your two bags of popcorn dry. If you use microwave popcorn, do not use the butter flavor. After it’s popped, put popcorn into a larger paper bag.
2. Mix maple syrup and coconut oil in a bowl and set aside.
3. Mix (7 Mushroom Mocha™), cacao powder, Ginger, chia seed meal, dark chocolate chips/nibs, and sea salt in a second bowl.
4. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix well until thoroughly combined.
5. Pour the mixture over the popcorn and shake it in the bag until thoroughly coated.
How to Serve & Additional Creative Ideas:
• For parties, serve the popcorn in small, individual bowls. This will make it easier for guests to enjoy their own serving.
• For movie theater night, bag the popcorn to go!
