The science is rooted in rigorous empirical research. We do Third Party Research conducted at the Ric Scalzo Institute for Botanical Research at the Sonoran University of Health Sciences. This research uses cell biology models that help us better understand our products' mechanism of action, to help support our product names and health benefit claims, as well as guide direction for product use.

We focus both on individual herbs in isolation and how herbal formulas work synergistically as a whole. This scientific and holistic approach reveals which herb blends offer the greatest potential for biological activity in real time.

The Ric Scalzo Institute for Botanical Research

The Ric Scalzo Institute for Botanical Research is part of Sonoran University of Health Sciences, a Naturopathic medical university in Tempe, Arizona. What started as a dream between Kokora’s founder, Ric Scalzo, and Sonoran University President, Dr. Paul Mittman, has now become a reality. The Institute conducts important herbal research, including qualifying an herbal formula's effects on human cell lines and gene expression that helps determine its impact on human health.

Many herbal remedy manufacturers selectively extract their herbs to unnaturally increase the concentration of certain constituents in the products they make. For example, while turmeric naturally contains between 2-8% curcumin, most products on the market are selectively extracted to contain 95% curcumin.
